Core Aeration & Seeding

Power Core Aeration is one of the most important maintenance practices the homeowner should do to maintain a healthy stand of turf. During aeration, a machine known as a core aerator pulls plugs of soil from the lawn. When performed properly, there are many cultural benefits for your lawn.

  • Relieve soil compaction
  • Allow for better air, water, and nutrient penetration to the roots
  • Improves root development
  • Improves biological function of the soil
  • Creates thicker, healthier lawn.
  • Helps break down the thatch layer.

On MRW Lawns, Inc. we offers Core Aeration in early spring or fall. Organic Topdressing in conjunction with this service is recommended to add organic matter to your soil, in order to correct poor soil structure.

Core/Slice Renovation and Seeding

The Core/Slice Renovation is a unique service offered only by MRW Lawns, Inc. It combines the benefits of Power Core Aeration. It is a method of seedbed preparation which uses both a core aerator to aerate the lawn, then a slice seeder or verti-cutting machine to cut the seed into grooves in the soil. First, the lawn is aerated. Then, the seed is applied with a broadcast spreader. Care is taken to ensure the seed is placed only on the turf area and not adjacent shrub beds. MRW uses only high quality certified seed. Last, the Slice Seeder, with its fixed blades, works the seed into the top ½ inch of soil. No tilling is required. No mess or mud.

Core/Slice renovation will thicken up a thin lawn or start a new lawn from scratch as long as the seedbed has no structural faults. A vegetation killer can be applied prior to renovation to kill all existing vegetation. Organic Topdressing in conjunction with this service is recommended to add organic matter to and correct poor soil structure.

Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance

MRW Lawns, Inc. has committed to water conservation and has joined TWCA (Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance). The Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance (TWCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the environment through water conservation initiatives. TWCA recognizes and promotes plants that can thrive using limited amounts of water, helping to preserve our water resources.

To accomplish this goal, the TWCA program is designed to recognize plants and other live goods products in the lawn and garden industry that provide a clear benefit in water conservation. Products that become TWCA qualified will have successfully met a stringent set of criteria. Therefore, consumers will be assured that any product with the TWCA qualified seal provides true water conservation benefits. MRW Lawns, Inc. also uses TWCA Qualified turfgrass cultivars.

The use of water to maintain residential lawns, recreational areas and landscapes, and other non-agricultural uses is often criticized and scrutinized by various governing bodies and the general public. In order to meet the growing tide of concern over non-agriculture water use, it is imperative that researchers work to introduce new plants and other live goods products into the market that can survive under reduced or limited water while still maintaining overall plant health.

The TWCA® program has potential to alleviate much of the strain we are placing on our water resources, as well as lessen the negative impact to our environment. By promoting products with identifiable water-saving benefits, billions of gallons of water a year could be saved. This program will create awareness of our nation’s growing water resource concern, and educate consumers in positive water conservation behaviors.
